Backing onto the railway in the northern districts of Morcenx, he developed a nationally renowned factory, allowing him to build houses in the recognizable style of Albert Pomade, a Dax architect, not only for himself but also for his son Gaston and his engineers.
After the factory closed, the town took ownership of this large house, very well located, close to the town center's amenities. A large house, certainly, surrounded by a park, with many possibilities. However, unoccupied for too many years, the Saint-Jours house gradually deteriorated. It looked sad in the 2000s and raised questions for passers-by.
Finally, following lengthy consultations between three project leaders: the municipality, the C.I.A.S. of the Pays Morcenais, and Enéal (social landlord), a rehabilitation plan for the sleeping beauty, including the creation of an independent living residence, will be finalized in 2022. This major project began in 2024. Expected to be completed in 2025, the work has restored the character of the Landaise of yesteryear. The addition of the independent living residence was done in a style respectful of Landes architecture, with 20 residences for seniors, single or couple. As for the Maison Saint-Jours, it will house the C.I.A.S. and C.C.A.S. services on the ground floor, as well as common areas for residents upstairs.
As with the former complementary course of the Gare school, this rehabilitation has made it possible to highlight one of the traces of this recent past, one of the elements which contributes to the rich heritage of Morcenx.
